The long task of high moisture corn harvest is well underway. Moisture is very high and finding corn that isn't moldy has been a challenge. Fortunately the ground has dried up and field work is easy.

Remembrance day. Lest we forget. To any of our service men and woman reading this, thank you for serving our great country. This was an interesting day. This is the second day of corn harvest and the second field to yield corn well over 30% moisture. It is becoming very clear this will not be an easy fall. Spite the high moisture, things were going well until the grain cart's slip clutch slipped and the auger refused to turn. Unsure what was causing the problem we decided that we'd need to empty the cart using the lower door instead of the auger. This was a perfect time to try out our sucker blower we own with another local elevator. It isn't the fastest machine, but it works extremely well and also folds down to fit easily in the back of a pickup for transport.

The corn dryer is just crawling. Operating at about 42% of normal capacity. It has been running 24 hours a day since we started to give us a chance to get something done during the day. As a result we are down to a 60ac a day pace with the combine. The only bright side is that the 9250 and 8 furrow plow can easily keep up to the combine and it has been 1 field behind all the way along so far.

A rainy day meant no harvesting. The combine could do it, but with 40 hours worth of drying in our wet bins there is no point. The plows kept going however. The 8 furrow plow broke a steering pin so we set up the 7 furrow on the T7060. It pulled it well so long as the ground was dry. If muddy then the tractor spun out as it isn't heavy enough.

Corn harvest is progressing slowly. Rain has made for some wet conditions in the un drained fields. Our casein dealer brought out a Ecotil 690 disk ripper for us to demo. We left half a field un plowed to do a side by side comparison in 2010. We were quite impressed with how well it chopped and buried the residue.

Well late the night of the 23rd I got the call that the 9250 was making a knocking sound and the tractor had no power. It was powered down immediately and left until morning. The next morning the dealer came and floated the tractor to their shop to be repaired. This has pushed our T7060 to the main plow tractor for the fall. We'll have to work hard to keep up now. Believe it or not, the T7060 was able to pull the disk ripper at 13" deep. Not well, but it did pull it and at 25% wheel slip only. We did an entire field with the tractor and ripper at only 8inches and it performed well.

It has been raining almost every day this week. The fields get wetter and wetter. The T7060 could no longer manage the on land 7 furrow plow so one dual was dropper and the in furrow 6 bottom plow was hooked up.
