August 7th 2009 Wheat harvest 2009 begins! What a huge improvement the new accelerator kit for the rotor made. Over a 1mph increase in speed even with the heavy crop of straw! Yields were about average in the high 70's. It is wet, very wet, much of the field was under water so instead of trying to bale the straw we blew in back. Bedding won't be an issue this year so we didn't need it.

Attempted to bale some hay, but the round baler didn't want to play. Going to need some wrenching to make it work. Worked through a fence row instead. Found a lot of years worth of field stones in there. Going to be quite a few loads to haul away!

The round baler is working perfectly again and 1st cut is slowly getting done. Like everything else, behind schedule!

With the entire roof removed from our starter barn, the process of getting it ready for new tin can begin. When the barn was built the contractor did a poor job and spaced the strapping WAY too far apart. So we are splitting the 2*4's to correct that blunder. Another good drying day so we were able to make some dry hay. Very good quality as well. It is for sale, 5ft round bales 1st and second cut.

Made excellent headway on the roof today, finished the big side of the roof. Was extremely hot up there. In the evening we went to a dealer to look at a tri-axle lowboy that was traded in. Seems to be in good shape but a fresh coat of paint is making us leery.

We picked the float up today to take it for a safety, it will give us a better indication of what the paint is hiding. It does look pretty good behind our Volvo!

Tin time! We hired a contractor to help us. We did all the work on the ground and they did the roof work. With 7 guys working it went fast!

Day 2 of the roof. Finished the big side, and got into the slow side. With 2 valleys to cut each sheet around it went a lot slower.

Roof work came to a halt after a very long shower made the tin to slick to walk on. A tarp was used for a bit but the call to quit for the day was made.

The barn roof is finished, as well as the roof over our new fuel storage. We are all happy we won't have to handle tin for a while!

After the safety was completed and the trailer was proven to be in excellent shape we decided to purchase it. Now we can move our excavator and dozer around as we please no longer relying on a float service! We picked up all of the bedding round bales that were out and about sweating. In the afternoons the finishing touches were done to the roof, tarring around the silo room, making sure no screws were missed etc. It looks a lot better than it did a month ago!!!
